(Halifax, NS) – Kevin Murphy has been acclaimed as the Liberal candidate for Eastern Shore and will represent the Nova Scotia Liberal Party in the next provincial election. Due to COVID-19, the nomination meeting was conducted virtually.
Kevin was first elected as MLA for Eastern Shore in 2013 and was re-elected in 2017. During his eight years in the legislature, Kevin has served as the Speaker of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. He is currently the longest-serving Speaker in Canada. Kevin has lived in the community of Eastern Shore for 43 years, where he raised his family and operated several small businesses prior to entering politics.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to represent the people of Eastern Shore once again,” said Murphy. “I believe in the potential of the area, and the quality of its residents, and I am confident that we have a bright future. Together we can reach our potential.”
Kevin has successfully championed for more affordable housing in Eastern Shore and has guided more than $4 million in housing investments on the Eastern Shore, and nearly $1 million in the re-development plans for Provincial Parks at Lawrencetown, Porters Lake, Martinique Beach and Clam Harbour. As MLA for the area, Kevin has been a champion of the new consolidated junior and senior high school, and the new long-term care facility to serve our communities, both of which were recently announced.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Kevin since 2013,” said Premier Iain Rankin. “In that time, I have come to know him as a real champion for his community. The people of Eastern Shore are fortunate to have him as their MLA.”
