The political fumbling by the Houston government on the Nova Scotia Power rate increase application not only failed to prevent a costly increase to Nova Scotians, it is now putting key projects like the Atlantic Loop at risk that would have provided much needed stability to our power grid.

The Annual Capital Expenditures just filed by the company show the negative consequences of the political interference, which caused credit downgrades for Nova Scotia Power, making it harder for the company to access affordable capital to fund these projects.

“Halting projects like the Atlantic Loop will have severe impacts on the province’s energy future, and this is off the back of Nova Scotians learning that the political interference by the Houston government did nothing to stop a 14 per cent increase on their power bill over the next two years”, said Opposition Leader Zach Churchill. “The Houston government’s nature of putting politics ahead of good policy is setting Nova Scotians up to pay more for less services.”
