Leader of the Opposition Iain Rankin joined Liberal health critic Zach Churchill on a tour of the New Waterford redevelopment site today, Sept. 29th, alongside MLAs Patricia Arab and Tony Ince, former CBRM city councillor Lowell Cormier, and Dr. Peter Littlejohn.

The tour was a part of the Liberal Caucus team’s ongoing outreach efforts, where Liberal members are taking time on the island to hear from residents and learn about how government can better serve their needs.

The New Waterford redevelopment is part of the previous Liberal government’s watershed $2 billion healthcare infrastructure investment, the largest in Nova Scotia’s history. The site will serve as an innovative community hub, consisting of a brand-new community health centre, a 60-bed longterm care home, and a new school serving grades 6-12.

Built on the current Breton Education Centre site, the expanded, modernized facilities will bring community resources together in one place.

“It was wonderful to visit the future site of a major project that will improve the lives and health of Cape Bretoners,” says leader Iain Rankin. “The state-of-the-art facility will not only improve the comfort and care of patients, it will also help support staff recruitment.”

The health and wellness of all Nova Scotians, from New Waterford to Yarmouth, is paramount to helping our province thrive.

This was just one step in the Liberal plan for improving healthcare. Our Liberal team is looking forward to seeing this investment come to life and for the positive impact it will have on Cape Bretoners.
