With hospitals in Nova Scotia pushed to crisis levels under Omicron’s surge, Premier Houston’s Nova Scotia Health Authority leadership team needs to provide Nova Scotians with an update at the next COVID briefing.
“If the hospitalization rate is the most accurate reflection of the Omicron variant, then why hasn’t the premier produced on-the-ground updates from the NSHA at briefings?” says Liberal Leader Iain Rankin.
Hospital outbreaks of the virus and staff shortages have left our province’s healthcare system at capacity, and doctors and nurses pushed to theirs.
But Nova Scotians are only getting these bits and pieces of the virus’ impact on hospitals through news stories or a trip to the emergency room. They need to be hearing from the experts.
“The Houston government’s pandemic strategy has left Nova Scotians with a lot of uncertainties,” says Rankin. “This wave has caused an unprecedented level of strain on hospitals and the NSHA leadership team needs to be out front on this.”
