With gas prices at an all-time high in our province, the Nova Scotia Liberal Party is calling on the Houston government to redirect fuel tax revenue back into the pockets of Nova Scotians.
The government needs to have an affordability rebate out the door to Nova Scotians affected by this unprecedented jump at the pump.
“Filling your fridge and gas tank is becoming more difficult to afford. Rising fuel prices have led to millions of extra revenue for the government and I’m asking Premier Houston to pass this directly back to Nova Scotians as a rebate,” says Natural Resources and Renewables Critic Carman Kerr.
Sitting on a $108 million surplus and incoming yields from high gas prices, the money is there for the Houston government to take action, and there is no good reason why they shouldn’t.
And with our province’s reliance on heating oil, along with volatile gas prices and a soaring cost of living, the government needs to act now, not later, to have this rebate make an immediate impact on Nova Scotians’ wallets.
