We’re Hiring: Research and Policy Analyst

The Nova Scotia Liberal Caucus is looking for a Research and Policy Analyst to join the research team! The research team advances the policies and positions of the Nova Scotia Liberal Caucus and facilitates the development of a strong network of support for our members and their staff.

The research team supports the objectives of Caucus by fostering relationships with stakeholders and managing key shadow cabinet files, organizing legislative sessions as well as maintaining sufficient opposition records and acting as a first point of contact for respective constituents assistants. Specific task requirements are listed below.

Direct Report: Director of Research and Legislative Affairs

Stakeholder Relations
• Initiate and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
• Organize meeting with various stakeholders for respective shadow ministers and or leader.
• Track and develop policy and question ideas from stakeholders.

File Management
• Manage and stay up to date on respective files.
• Ensure shadow minister is briefed on hot topics and arising issues weekly.
• Create briefing notes for caucus communications and members as required.

Constituency Assistant Relations
• Ensure respective constituency assistants (CA) have necessary tools and resources to best support their members and respond effectively to constituents.
• Act as first point of contact for CAs on issues management related to casework.
• Develop and provide appropriate training for CAs on various areas such as CRM, CA training Retreats and Monthly virtual training sessions.

Committees
• Manage respective committees assigned to researcher.

House of Assembly
• Work with Director of Research & Legislative Affairs in creating house briefing binders on respective files prior to legislative session.
• Working with Director of Research & Legislative Affairs/members and stakeholders on drafting legislation.
• Drafting daily questions for question period and estimates.
• Assisting caucus communications in speech writing and speaking notes for government bills.
• Attend Government bill briefings and ensure caucus and staff are well informed.
• Work with constituency assistants on ensuring adequate number of daily members statements and resolutions.
• Staff members while house of assembly is in session including some evenings.

Other Duties as Required

Work with the Director of Research & Legislative affairs on any other duties that are required.
