Today the Houston government left Nova Scotians with more questions than answers when it comes to the HRM planning task force.

In a press conference today, over a month since the Houston government’s housing plan was announced, the Premier is still unable to explain the nuts and bolts of this planning panel, and what they’re there to do.

“I apologize if I’m having trouble articulating exactly what the intent of the task force is,” the Premier said.

The Nova Scotia Liberal Party introduced amendments to the housing bill during this past House session that would require the task force to publicly disclose all projects they’re considering. The amendment was rejected by the Houston government.

“Nova Scotians should be concerned that a government intent on having a housing panel cloaked in secrecy is unable to answer even basic questions about it,” says Liberal Leader Iain Rankin.

Premier Houston has repeatedly said he wants to be held accountable by Nova Scotians.

“If that’s truly the case, then this task force needs to be accountable before the Legislature,” Rankin says. “The intent of this task force should be crystal clear at this point. And it’s not.”
