In 2013, Iain was elected as the Liberal MLA for the riding of Timberlea-Prospect, and was re-elected in 2017 and 2021. As MLA, Iain has been a strong and dedicated representative for his community. He has developed a strong reputation for being an engaged and accessible MLA.
In 2017, Premier Stephen McNeil appointed Iain to cabinet, where he served as Minister of Environment, as well as Minister of Lands and Forestry. Iain succeeded McNeil as Leader of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party in early 2021, becoming the 29th Premier of Nova Scotia.
Iain resides in Timberlea with his wife Mary, and their daughter Freya.
He currently serves as Shadow Minister for Environment and Climate Change; Power Rates; Gaelic Affairs. Iain also sits on the Private and Local Bills Committee.
