With winter now in full force, the Nova Scotia Liberal Party is calling on the Houston government to provide swift action to help those experiencing homelessness due to the delayed opening of modular units in HRM.
The first modular housing project was set to open in Dartmouth today, but just this past week it was revealed that both projects in Halifax and Dartmouth would be further delayed until the new year, leaving many people on the streets during the coldest nights of the year. The Houston government has remained silent on the matter.
“In just one week, we’ve learned that the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre shelter is closing, and now two projects are being delayed under Premier Houston’s watch,” says Homelessness critic Brendan Maguire. “It’s a disgrace. Temperatures are rapidly dropping in Nova Scotia and unhoused people are left out in the cold by the Houston government.”
The Houston government made it clear they want get the housing crisis under control, but when will they finally take ownership of getting Nova Scotians off the streets?
