Merlyn Smith has been nominated as the Liberal candidate for Colchester North and will represent the Nova Scotia Liberal Party in the next provincial election. Due to COVID-19, the nomination process was conducted virtually.
Merlyn has been a resident of the community of Valley for the past 28 years. Currently, he serves as the Operations Manager and Health & Safety Officer for a Nova Scotia retail gas and convenience company. For over 27 years, Merlyn has been a member of the Valley-Kemptown and District Fire Brigade. Merlyn has held various positions and currently holds the position of Captain. He also volunteers with the Colchester Fire Fighters Association and has served as President for the past 22 years.
“I’m honoured to be named the Liberal candidate for Colchester North,” said Smith. “I have dedicated myself to serving the community and I am excited to have the opportunity to do more for our community as MLA.”
Merlyn has been a dedicated community volunteer for many years through his involvement in emergency services, coaching youth sport, and other service organizations. His professional experience has provided him with strong financial and management skills and has made him acutely aware of the issues that matter the most in Colchester North.
